Current-Fed Switchmode Power Supplies and its Evolution to Higher Power Densities and Magna-Power Electronics Facility Tour

On Thursday, March 10, 2016 the IEEE Consultants’ Network of Northern NJ (www.TechnologyOnTap.org) will present a talk by Ira J. Pitel, President of Magna-Power Electronics.

About the Topic

Magna-Power Electronics designs and manufactures a broad line of dc power supplies for the test and measurement market. Most power supplies in the 1 kW plus range utilize voltage-fed, hard switched and soft-switched topologies. Current-fed power converters, the electrical dual of the voltage-fed converter, is still another, but less known and used, power circuit alternative. The speaker will present the pros and cons of various higher power, switch mode circuits and the evolution of the company?s internal infrastructure enabling cutting edge power densities.

The meeting will be held at Magna-Power Electronics in Flemington, NJ and will conclude with a facility tour of a vertically integrated power electronics manufacturing facility.
